About Us

A beloved Beale Street institution that has been serving up authentic Southern barbecue and soul food since 1991. Originally opened as “Doe’s Eat Place,” we became Blues City Cafe in 1993 and quickly became a favorite for both locals and visitors for its slow-cooked ribs, fried catfish, homemade tamales, and classic Southern sides.

Known for our generous portions, friendly service, and vibrant atmosphere, we're a quintessential part of the Memphis experience, blending great food with the city’s rich musical heritage. Attached to the main restaurant, you'll find the Band Box, which hosts live blues and other music nightly, making it a go-to destination for barbecue, brews, and entertainment on historic Beale Street.

Our reviews often highlight the ribs that fall off the bone, crispy catfish, flavorful gumbo, and warm hospitality, while many praise us as a must-visit spot when exploring Memphis’s food and music scene.
